ADHD and supplements: My Best Supplements for Taking Control of my overwhelmed brain

Welcome to my journey to control my ADHD / ASD.

Was not an easy task, neither a clear route. I wish someone tell me what I will tell you right now.
This is also not a cure, but a control of the most hard parts of ADHD and ASD. Since not very long time ago I discovered I have this 2 characteristics, and understand made my life make way more sense and being in peace with it is a long road.
Since I was a kid, I always felt like I stood out from the crowd.
While other girls were playing with common games, I found my joy in science and cherished my alone time, building my own lab and spend hours play all alone and quite rarely missing social interactions.
Aat 7 I already did physics calculations and at 10 i wrote my first piece of code in BASIC, when altavista and the netscape was the only tools in my dispose.

My hyperphantasia and high IQ (<130) made me feel like I lived in a world of my own, often finding “normal” people a bit boring. Despite pursuing a degree in physics and excelling in it, life took a turn, and my curiosity led me to explore how people think and experience emotions beyond the boundaries of my own spectrum.

But here’s the thing—I had to confront my internal struggles.
ADHD had a way of making my brain work on overdrive, processing multiple senses at once, in complement of my Synesthesia. Ever single part of my life has an immense number of layers, each one with their on information and perks. I overthink and over analyze everything, since the most insignificant detail to the highly complex tones, sentences and grammar structures in a conversation. All at once!!! Yes is insane the number of informations I deal with.

Whenever I found myself surrounded by more than a handful of people, my brain would come to a screeching halt, just like a computer overheating. And let’s not forget the anxiety that always seemed to tag along with ADHD, making things even more challenging.

That’s when finding the right supplements became essential for me, and believe, I tested many supplements, so many I lost count.
The list below became my secret weapon in expanding my social circle and overcoming the fear of engaging with multiple people simultaneously. So, let me share with you the supplements I use daily that have truly changed the game for me.

Number 1: Melatonin

Picture this—today’s world is all about computers and phones, right? Well, that affects our sleep in a big way.
Our circadian rhythm gets thrown off, and our sleep quality takes a nosedive.
Even if I manage to get to bed early, insomnia pays me a visit almost every night, causing me to waste hours tossing and turning.
And trust me, when I get less than 8 hours of sleep, my brain feels foggy and stuck in slow mode, even with a cup of coffee or energy drinks.
To combat this, I’ve created a dark sanctuary in my bedroom, take a warm shower a couple of hours before bed, and rely on melatonin to help me achieve a restful night’s sleep.

Number 2: L-theanine

Now, let me tell you about this supplement. It’s a funny story, really.
I stumbled upon it by chance without having any idea of its effects.
But guess what? I experienced a mind-blowing transformation.
Suddenly, my brain felt clean, like someone had wiped away the fog that often clouded my thoughts.
It was as if my cognitive abilities had been unleashed in full power mode.
I can’t emphasize enough how much L-theanine has changed my life.
I can now effortlessly switch between my five other languages without hesitation, and ideas flow freely without getting lost along the way.
It’s an absolute game-changer for people like me with ADHD.

Number 3: GABA

Ah, GABA, my trusty companion in battling anxiety.
This supplement has been a true lifesaver for me.
It has this amazing ability to help me relax and prevent my mind from overthinking every little thing.
Whether I take it before bed to wind down or before facing a challenging situation, it works wonders.
But be warned, if you take it in the morning, you might end up feeling a bit sleepy.
I can’t stress enough how much I rely on GABA—it’s become a part of my daily routine.

Number 4: Lion’s Mane

Okay, I admit I was very skeptical about this one.
Everyone seemed to be trend about Lion’s Mane, a mushroom with nootropic properties (only less than 2% of the mushroom has the same properties).
But again I know who marketing works I didnt trust on the information I gathered… You know, clickbait articles are everywhere.
However, why not, right?

So, I decided to give it a shot. And let me tell you, it blew me away.
Lion’s Mane not only promotes the growth of new brain cells but also reduces the risk of dementia while alleviating depression and anxiety.
When I combine it with L-theanine and GABA, it’s like I become a turbocharged version of myself.
I can do complex calculations at lightning speed and recall childhood memories with vivid clarity.
It’s incredible what this unique mushroom can do.
The only downside is that most of the benefits fade away if I don’t use it for two weeks.
